There are just 28 days to go till the start of the annual madness of script frenzy starts once again. So what are my plans this year…?
Well first of all, I want to actually do it this year.
Last year, I didn’t really make a go of it. The problem was that I started my new job on April 1st having been out of a full time employment for 3 months at that point. So the script sort of took a back seat to everything else on that first day and it never really recovered. I tried 2 or was 3 different ideas, each one of which didn’t get beyond a few pages, before I gave up.
Almost a year later, my employment status is stable (something it hasn’t been since 2008) and so I should be able to focus on the script.
Beyond actually starting and finishing the script, my plans are a bit vague at the moment. I don’t really have a full, working, idea yet, just a vague collection of characters and things, with a sort of linking theme. The Genre is going to be sci-fi/fantasy, that much is sure, but I might make it a script for a PG rated, young adult film (the sort o ‘Harry Potter’ market) or I might go the whole hog and have it a 15 rated action script. I’ve got rough ideas for 3 lead characters with maybe 2 others. I also have in my head that the second act will be set on a literal space ship, that is a sailing ship in space. The first act will be set on Earth in the ‘House of Many Doors’ setting I used in my first nanowrimo story ‘The Route’. There will be some sort of thing, an artefact, which two of the characters are after and which could end the world!
The working titles for this vague collection of ideas are either eatherbrite (the name of the space ship) or greywalker (the title of one of the characters).
As you can see I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me in the next 28 days!
