New Google stuff

First is was wave, then we had DNS, now we have Buzz and fibre networks.
Is there some sort of master plan to all of Googles new ‘stuff’, or is this just what a huge company, with very deep pockets does to spend money?
I’ve posted quite a bit about google lately (just look at the google tag!), but that is just a function of the amount of new stuff they are doing.
It seems crazy to me that they are able to do all of this and still have money to burn. Just how does Google make it’s money? Well advertising of course, and there must be a huge amount of money in that, but is there really? I have never bought anything I found through an online ad, I very really click on them even. Every one else I know (which is admittedly, a very small number) is the same. I guess there must be lots of people out there that are different from me!
Anyway that’s not what this post is all about. What I’m trying to figure out is if there is a master plan in what google is trying to do?
Well obviously there is one overriding thing behind a lot of this and that is to get more information on people which can be used to target ads better.
But is that all? Or is there some evil master plan behind some of the new stuff? Well I can’t at the moment see any real plan behind either Buzz or Wave. But then I’m clearly not as clever as a lot of people at google are.
Maybe these new services are just created out of a sense of generosity. I’d like to think that this is the case, but google is a company and however ‘nice’ a company seems, they all have to make money and that to me means that there must be an ‘angle’ somewhere in all this. I just don’t see it right now.
The other thing that I do see right now is me ever finding a use for Wave or using Buzz. Wave is as far as I can see a sort of chat on steroids. I can see if being useful for shared projects, but since I’m not involved in anything like that, I don’t see me using it again (I logged in once had a play then logged out again!)
As for Buzz…well they are just going after Twitter here. Okay it might have a few more features that Twitter and integrate directly with gmail, but since I don’t really use me gmail account much and have built up a, small, number of followers on Twitter, why would I change?
Maybe what google is trying to do is to find the one thing, that will change the internet forever, since they don’t know what that might be, they have to try anything and everything that comes in to there collective head. That probably in the end is a good thing for us as users. We can try all of these new services and (if your like me) then not use them again! Okay I still use google docs from time to time, but I basically use google for search. I have even moved to Bing for there maps, which seem to be more up to date as well as having more features, than google maps.
Okay I’ve rambled on long enough and still haven’t reached a point, so I’m going to leave it there!
